Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mycelium a CMDB/CMS?
While the ITIL definition of CMDB/CMS was one of the primary drivers for building Mycelium, we would argue that the solution goes beyond the definitions of ITIL, not least as we cover DevOps.
Do we need a different Mycelium instance for each use case?
Not at all, in fact it is better if a single Mycelium instance is used for all use cases as the links between the datasets can be very useful and provide more diverse perspectives on the dataset.
What data formats can Mycelium consume?
Mycelium can consume CSV and JSON formats as standard. However we have developed, and will continue to develop, scripts to gather data from other sources, either directly via APIs or by using system tools (for example to traverse filesystems).
Can Mycelium integrate into existing reporting options?
In short – yes. Mycelium produces output in either CSV or JSON format as standard, so can deliver into any standard reporting interface. We have used Tableau, and currently use Google Data Studio and Excel to prepare our internal and example reporting. Our preference is to integrate with whatever already exists to minimise disruption.
